Running your own business is not much more than a dream for many creative individuals.
For a long time Jessica Enders, Principal of Formulate Information Design, fit into this category. She knew there were plenty of forms out there that causing a great deal of unnecessary suffering for both the people who filled them out and the people who used the completed form. However, Australian organisations were largely unaware that specialist form designers exist, let alone were used to engaging their skills on form design projects.
But Jessica was never one to shy away from a challenge as family, friends, colleagues and clients can all testify. When Jessica officially launched Formulate on 22 October 2007 she knew that she would need to not only overcome the hurdles of establishing a small business but also work hard to communicate the importance of engaging a professional designer for forms, much as one would do for a corporate publication, a website or a book.
One year on and business is booming. "We've had a diverse range of clients this past year, from SEEK, Australia’s Number 1 job site, to smaller specialist businesses like Quality Occupational Health and datacomIT. In the government sector, we've been delighted to help important agencies like the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Therapeutic Goods Administration ensure they collect data in the most efficient, effective and user-friendly way they can."
